The last decade has seen the unlikely rise of everyday people to influencer status. Fuelled by the rise of social media platforms such as Instagram, YouTube and Snapchat, friendly, relatable personalities have become the new face of global advertising. From HudaBeauty, to Bin Baz, to many other renown figures – people have started to turn away from the traditional model of celebrities, and now get their lifestyle cues from people who seem more like them. With this growing new industry, one which has seen advertising jump out of the big screen and into our phones, tablets and laptops, thereby occupying much more of our time, there are new opportunities but also risks.
